The Main EventOnce again this year, we were privileged to host many distinguished guests at The Good Neighbours' Club's annual Day of the Homeless, sponsored by The Daniels Corporation, represented by Mitchell Cohen.
The Day of the Homeless began as a memorial for Good Neighbours’ Club member Paul Croutch, whose senseless death outraged the community. We continue the event annually as a tribute to him and to our members who have died in the last year, but also to express our solidarity with the homeless and the marginalized in our city.
This year, our event was ably hosted by Roger Petersen, Citytv - CityNews Tonight Anchor, and featured another great line-up of speakers, including Senator Art Eggleton, Member of Provincial Parliament Glen Murray, City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Ryerson President Sheldon Levy, member Henry Botchford, and Joe Tilley, Sports Anchor, CTV News Toronto.
The Paul Croutch Awards
The 2011 edition of The Day of the Homeless featured the inaugural presentation of The Good Neighbours’ Club Paul Croutch Awards sponsored by TD Bank Group and presented by Dan Demers, VP Distribution Support, TD Canada Trust, and Good Neighbours Club Board Member.
There will be three awards this year. The first is nominated and co-presented by the members of the Good Neighbours' Club. The second is nominated and co-presented by our Executive Director, Dr. Bruno Scorsone. The third is nominated and co-presented by Adrienne McLennan, Chair of our Board of Directors.
The Art Show
There will also be an art show with various pieces for sale, hosted jointly in our main foyer by our own Good Neighbours' Artists Group and Artists Together. Come and see their creations in clay, cotton, canvas, and silk.
And a Thank You to Babble On
Babble On Communicaitons is one of the premiere public relations firms in Canada, and has earned the reputation of being "a PR firm with a conscience.
